First Person Shooter

1) Provide an outline of what the video is about:
The video that i watched i class was about a boy that started playing Counter Strike, a first person shooter game that is on computer.

He just started playing it for fun but then he got obssesed with it that he couldnt stop playing it. It started to take over his life and he stoped all of the sport he was playing and his school grades were going down. then his parents took action and took his computer away. but that didnt stop him as he went out to town and started playing the game in a internet cafe kind of store. he had about 6 friends with him that stayed out all night playing the game. he started just going out from morning to about 7:00 but then when he became more obssesed he started going out all night and returning in the morning.

Then his parents had to stop this so they gave hs computer back but with a high speed intenet connection. that didnt stop him for long, he was back on the game. there was nothing his parents could do.

Later on that month there was a counter strike Tournament in Washington. his dad agreed that he could go so he hired a camper van and took the boys. in the end the boys came runner up in the tournament.

2) What would you have done if you were the parents?
If i was the parents i would of not let him play the game all day but still let himplay it when he wants. he should have a least a break evey now and then.

3) Is it a concern that video game addiction might happen to you or someone you know. Explain.
it is not a concern for me because i am not addicted to them. i just like to play them for fun. i am too into my sport and i would take sport anyday over video games. i think that it could happen to smithy because he does not stop talking about them, nah i dont think it is a concern to me or anyone i know.

4) In your opinion are video games addictive and dangerous. Discuss.
Some issues and further questions I raised after the video:
the reason that there are alot more boys playing first person shooters that girls is that boys are more interested in war type games. i dont like them because you kill people but because it is just fun, i cant really explain. but it is not because we want to kill.

I think that some people can get violent from these game but only the ones that are addicted to the games. some games might be frustrating and may get angry at the game and then you might take it out on someone else. but that boy that threw the coffee table across the room, he has major problems in his life. god save that boy.

The rating system on the games does not satop under age kids play these games. no one listens to these rules and the shop even lets you buy them without even asking you ID.

Off topic (movies)

I like to watch action movies and war movies. i like fighting movies like jet lee aswell. my favourite war movie is Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down. My favourite fighting movie is unleashed. it stars jet lee and he is brought up to kill people but the he finds a family that want him to live with them. they changed the way that he thinks anbout killing people and then he became a part of their family. my favourite action movies would have to be the lord of the rings series. i love the medievil kind of stuff. i also like the star wars movies. I have watched alot of movies in my life.  

Off topic (knockout tennis)

On thursday, 30th of march i played knockout tennis for the school. we were in a team of four people and had 2 subs. in the doubles we lost 9-3 and in the singles i lost 7-5. it was a close game for me but the team was thrashed. we only got one set off the other team but we hope to do better next year. we got kicked out of the competition by the same time last year and it was also in the first round.

off topic( lost tv show)

I really like the lost tv show that is on thursdays 9:30. it is a really thrilling tv show because you dont know what is going to happen next and there are alot of secrets on the island that you dont know about. the only bad thing about the show is that has been going on for 3 seasons now and you still dont know what the big secret is. but still i like it because it keeps you guessing.

Off Topic (doom)

On the weekend i watched the movie doom. i thought is was alright but it was a bit dark some parts of the movie. a liked it when one of the main characters in the movie went into first person mode. it made it look like he was in a game, which looked pretty good. a lot of people said the movie was really crap but i thought it was not that bad. I think that they could make a second doom.

Off Topic (tennis finals)

Last weekend my tennis team for orion tennis club won the semi finals of the competition which put us into the preliminary finals which i am very happy about. we will play the tennis prelim on saturday at 8:30 at home courts which are the school courts. i am hoping to make the finals like we did a year ago and we went on to win.

off topic( cricket grand final)

Two sundays ago woodville sth my cricket team got into the cricket final. we were on top all year and only lost 3 games out of 12. but sadly we lost in the final to RCP. we were bowled out for 60 runs which was dissapointing. and they ended up making 160. we got thrashed but next year we are wantint to win this time.

Skills Challenge 7

7) Make a timer which counts up or down how much time is left to play

This is how i done skills challenge 7.

Add font and made the text tahoma and clicked ok.

Add object< Add event< create event< set variable time to 10< set alarm 0 relitive to 30.

Add event< alarm event< set variable time to -1< set alarm to room_speed.

Add event< step event< if an expression is true (time<0)< start of a block< create instance of object (object 1)< detroy the instance(self)< end of a block.

The reason i created instance of object (object 1) and detroy the instance(self). is because when the timer gets to 0 it will destroy itself and then create a still of time 0. that is how i got the time to stop.
Add event< draw< draw a text< ('time = ' + string(time)

Make another object< Add event< draw< set font to 0< Draw a text (time = 0)

Then i made a room and put object 0 in there.

I got a little bit of help from Coded3 on how to stop the time.

 

Skills Challenge 6

6) A ball goes through a goal and the score goes up by one…the score does not go up if the ball misses the goal.

This is how i done skills challenge 6.

Add sprite> load sprite> loaded ball. then made ball as an object.

Add sprite> load sprite> loaded wall sprite then made it as an object.

Then i went into the ball object and done the following.

Add event> step event> if an expression is true (expression y<0)> control tab (start of a block)> set the score relative to 1> destroy the instance (self)> create instance of object (objectball with x at 304 and y at 224> and then end of block.

Add event> collision event> collision with wall> destroy the instance> cteate instance of object (objectball with x at 304 and y at 224)

Add event> other> outside room> jump to a given position x 304 y 224> start moving in a direction and clicked in the middle with speed at 0.

The reason why i set the positions to x 304 and y 224 is that when the ball enters the room it will be in the middle of the room.

Add event> keypress> press b key> set direction and speed of motion( 45+random(90) with speed at 10.

Because you set it at 45+random(90) it means that it will shoot up in the 90 degrees area but it will be sloppy and not always in the same place. It will be random and may miss.

Then i made a room with the width at 640 and the hieght at 480. then i creted the room with the walls and put the ball in the room.
